Few industries tackle information overload as much as the legal industry. There is a lot of correspondence, documentation and other types of information related activities going on round the clock. So we thought about the legal teams working on cases together, and what could be the challenges in terms of technology for them this year. Here is our version of the ‘most anticipated technology challenges for lawyers in 2013’.
# Balancing the information:
When a team is working together, information and lots of it, needs to be exchanged. Any team is dysfunctional if right people don’t know the right information. However not everyone needs to know everything and ironically to channelize the flow of information, one needs to regulate it. This remains as the toughest challenge as the legal community makes the shift towards more advanced team management solutions. So there is a need of a business automation software alternative, that lets you regulate information and thereby channelize it.
# Collaborating in teams with accountability:
Having said the above about information access, it does not mean that we have fully covered the collaboration part of it. New Age Lawyers need a high level of accountability and collaboration within the team. So law firms who have been using simpler software like spreadsheets, need to move up and think of more advanced collaboration tools that can ensure an audit trail of information.
# Securing the Confidential Information:
Probably some of the information that you possess was transferred to digital form. Perhaps there are multiple copies of this information floating around. You never know what is going to happen with such information, so a very important challenge for law firms is ensuring great level of security in years to come. Looking at options like encryption seems to be the right direction in this regard.
#Organizing Information:
Businesses across industries have gained from improved information management and law firms can enjoy the same benefits. A large share of a lawyer’s time is spent in organizing information. So there is a drastic need for an application that can organize information in multiple ways so that searching relevant information is easier.
