The release of Globodox 9 affects users in some important ways. The effect varies, depending on whether you are an existing Globodox customer using version 126.96.36.199 and above or are still evaluating the software. Let’s look at these implications…
Upgrade setup blocks upgrading to version 9 if your MainDB is MS Access based
If your installation of Globodox uses an MS Access based MainDB then you must convert the MainDB to any one of the following DB types…
1. MS SQL Express (It’s free. Download from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29062)
2. MS SQL Server
Once your MainDB is converted you will be able to upgrade to Globodox version 9. We strongly recommend converting all the other Data DBs that are MS Access based to any one of the above DB types.
“I’m still evaluating Globodox”
If you’re evaluating Globodox and have not yet purchased licenses, then you can continue with your Free Trial as usual. When you purchase Globodox licenses, you will have to download and install the update setup for Version 9 and apply the registration key that we send you. In the meantime, if you want to test-use the new version, you can update your setup. (Please refer to the note at the end of this post, before you proceed.)

Why should I upgrade to Globodox version 9 ?
Globodox 9 is one of our biggest releases with a whole bunch of exciting new features which make it an even more efficient tool to manage your documents!! An update setup to upgrade your existing installations is now available. Check out the newly added features here.
Will upgrading to version 9 erase my existing data?
No – it won’t! When you upgrade to version 9, you will need to download the update setup, install it and run it. The update setup will upgrade your Globodox DB but it will not touch your data. This means you do not lose your data. As always it is a good practice to back up your Globodox DBs before any Globodox upgrade. Remember to back up the Main DB as well as all the Data DBs.
How do I go about upgrading to version 9 ?
That depends on whether your Maintenance Subscription is currently active or it has ended. If the Maintenance Subscription is currently active, you just need to download and install the update setup, run it, restart Globodox and continue using it as usual (you must update the Globodox installation on each machine). But if your Maintenance Subscription has come to an end, you will need to purchase Maintenance Subscriptions – as many as the number of Globodox licenses you own. Once you purchase the Maintenance Subscriptions, we will email you the registration key and the link to download the update setup. You can then download and install the update setup, run it, restart Globodox and continue using it as usual. It’s that simple!
What are the steps to update my Globodox installation?
Below are the 6 easy steps to update to Version 9 :
1. Convert MS Access based DBs.
If you are using MS Access based Globodox DBs then convert them to MS SQL Express (available free), MS SQL Server or MySQL. This is because the new features in version 9 require a more robust DB. Please make sure that you convert the MainDB as well as all the Data DBs that are MS Access based
After the converting the DBs please make sure that you are able to access data and documents in Globodox.
2. Take a backup of all your DBs before upgrading to the latest version.
3. Make sure that Globodox is not running on any of the machines when running the update setup.
4. Start upgrading Globodox on the machine on which it is installed in the Server mode.
5. Once the update setup is installed on the server machine, make sure that you start Globodox once.
6. The first time you login after installing the update setup, you will need to login as the ‘superadmin’ user and open each DB with this user so that all the DBs get upgraded to the latest version.
7. Once you have done this, you will need to install the update setup on all the Client machines individually.
That’s it! Once you have carried out the steps above, you are ready to use Globodox v9 to manage your documents even more effectively than before.
What if I choose not to upgrade to Globodox 9?
You can still carry on using Globodox as usual, but in case you face an issue requiring support from our side, one of the first things we would ask you to do would be to upgrade your version to the latest one. Often, that by itself is sufficient to resolve the issue. So it is always beneficial to keep your Globodox updated to the latest version.
My Maintenance Subscription ended on (or before) 13th Feb 2014. I want to upgrade to Globodox 9. How can I do so?
If your Maintenance Subscription came to an end on or before 13th Feb 2014, you will need to purchase as many Maintenance Subscriptions as the number of Globodox licenses you own. You can purchase Maintenance Subscriptions by contacting us at [email protected]. Once you purchase the Maintenance Subscriptions, we will email you the registration key and the link to download the update setup. You can then download and install the update setup, run it, restart Globodox and continue using it as usual. It’s that simple!
Note for both – existing customers as well as users evaluating Globodox:
Please do not use the Full Setup to update an existing installation of Globodox – always use the Update Setup. Also, you must not uninstall an existing version and attempt to install the latest version of Globodox using the Full Setup. This will *not* work. This will *not* work. Download the update setup and follow the steps given in “What are the steps to update my Globodox installation?” above.
